Description
To me one of the things that struck me as most beautiful, aside from the locals and the beaches, is the wild horses. They roam freely on the island and are just incredible to watch. The BioBay tour is also worth visiting. You'll be able to see the beauty and science of Bioluminescence, along with the life of Pyrodinium Bahamense, the single-celled organism responsible for this amazing glow. We also recommend Mar Azul, a very relax pub where you can enjoy breathtaking sunsets. There are many other places to eat and drink just a few minutes by foot.
Vieques "Isla Nena" is well known for its natural resources, beautiful and crystalline beaches, bioluminescent bay, black sand beach and for its horses. We invite you to have unique adventures—always with respect, tolerance, and in peace.
This small and beautiful island is part of the archipelago that gives its name to what is known as Puerto Rico, or Borikén, as it was called by its first inhabitants. Unlike the main island of Puerto Rico, which was home to the Taínos, Vieques was inhabited by the Carib Indians, known for their indomitable spirit. Perhaps it is this trace of DNA that led Vieques to become one of the few U.S. territories where, after many decades, the community succeeded in transforming a military training ground into the paradise that both visitors and locals can now enjoy.
Our home holds no greater pretensions than to provide our guests with a pleasant, safe, and balanced environment. Here, you can marvel at a starry sky, a splendid daytime horizon, and a dark and alluring nightscape.
As a footnote, it was in this very space that ideas and strategies were developed to remove the U.S. Navy and reclaim our island as a peaceful place where its inhabitants could live in harmony—gazing at the horizon and appreciating whatever “the sea” (as we say locally) might bring.
We hope you enjoy your stay, and may it never be a farewell, but rather a see you later.
Other things to note
IMPORTANT NOTE: Since it’s a small island, addresses aren’t always very precise. We recommend asking a local for directions and mentioning either “La casa de Lula Tirado” or “El Chalet de Frankie”—people on the island will know where it is.LAT 18.156319, -65.436913***
